Emanuel's History
|  | | 1889: Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hartford is organized.
1890-1893: Carl Johan Begston, Pastor
1892: Congregation moves into its own Church located at the corner or Russ and Babcock Streets.
1894-1910: Svante Carl Franzen, Pastor
1912-1917: Sven Gustaf Youngert, Pastor
1913: Basement of the church building on Capitol Avenue is finished. The congregation moves in while fund-raising for the rest of the Church plans.
1917-1948: Bror Julius Hulteen, Pastor
1919: One of each Sunday's three worship services is held in English.
1924: First service in the finished structure on Capitol Avenue.
1943: Worship service is held in Swedish once per month.
1948-1971: Stanley Sandberg, Emanuel's first American-born Pastor
1956: Parish Building and Chapel completed
1963: Four Lutheran Synods, including Emanuel's synod, Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, merge to form the Lutheran Church in America.
1971-1996: John Henry Stadtlander, Emanuel's first non-Swedish Pastor
1971: Capitol Towers, a high rise apartment building for the elderly, is completed.
1988: Lutheran Church in America, American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches merge to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
1989: Emanuel celebrates its 100th anniversary
1997-Present: John A. F. Corgan serves as Emanuel's seventh Senior Pastor.
