Overall Educational Objective: Recognizing all humans are born sinners yet rejoicing in God's gracious activity in Jesus Christ, Christian education at Emanuel will direct the Gospel to persons through a variety of biblically based study, activities and materials that allow the theology of justification to inform all areas of persons' lives; and in response to the Christian's freedom from despair over our salvation, will assist persons in discerning and engaging in good works and service to neighbor with all educational opportunities nurturing the faith given through the Holy Spirit.
Educational Objective for Children: To provide biblically based classes that communicate God's love for them, no matter what, and help them to know Jesus as kind and caring, supported by activities, materials and a church community that reinforce a desire to model the caring ways of Jesus with increasing awareness of God's loving presence in baptism and, in older elementary, in Holy Communion and the forgiveness of sins. Educational Objective for Youth: All classes, activities and materials will remind students during this difficult stage of adolescence of God's merciful acceptance through revisitation of Bible stories, taking into account entrance into abstract thinking, confirmation instruction and ministry that helps youth through Word and Sacrament and response to the good news of the Gospel to identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission, all at increasing levels of biblical and theological awareness. Educational Objective for Adults: Taking into account the various stages of adulthood, to provide opportunities for adult learners at varying learning levels to question their position in front of their Creator in a nurturing and caring community and through biblically based classes, activities, materials and theological support from the pastor and trained lay teachers to find answers in the comforting news of the Gospel; and in their response to God's gracious act in Jesus Christ be given the opportunity to discern good works and service to neighbor, both individually and within the larger Christian community and its mission. |
