"Why should I believe that stuff anyway?"
Has your adolescent or an adolescent you know ever posed a question like this to you? Did you know how to respond? Have you ever asked this question yourself?! Are you an adolescent who is asking this question?!!!
How do we know the fundamental beliefs of Christian faith are true? Why should we believe God exists, that Jesus is God Incarnate, that He rose from the dead? Why should we believe in One God who is a Trinity of Three Persons? And, more to the point, should we even be asking these questions? Isn't it heretical to question "the faith?" Isn't doubt bad?
On Wednesdays, October 3, 10 and 17 from 6:45 to 8:00 pm in the classroom in the upper level of the Parish Building, I will be offering an educational opportunity that will address adolescent faith development and at the same time offer some thoughts about a rational defense for the Christian faith. Having taught theology and scripture to high school students for thirteen years, I've had to wrestle with these issues and have stumbled upon some helpful and hopeful insights!☺ I look forward to facilitating a discussion that will encourage us in articulating and sharing our faith with our adolescents and will help all of us grow more deeply in the mystery of Christ's stunning love.
So, if you've ever wondered how to deal with your adolescent's faith formation or if you've ever asked these same questions yourself or if you're an adolescent asking these questions, this is the class for you! Please come join us!
